Schoen Clinic is a leading provider of specialist mental health services for children, adolescents and adults across the UK.
They offer tailored, multidisciplinary treatment programmes that address a wide range of conditions, including anxiety, depression, ADHD, eating disorders and complex dementia. Their expert teams are dedicated to delivering compassionate, individualised care both in-person and online, helping thousands of patients achieve better mental health and wellbeing every year.
With demand for mental health services at unprecedented levels (as of early 2025, a record 2.05 million people in the UK are seeking care), more patients than ever are being referred to private healthcare for faster access to treatment. Schoen Clinic partnered with Semble in order to meet this rising demand for faster care.
Before implementing Semble, Schoen Clinic struggled with fragmented booking processes, higher non-attendance rates and clunky admin tasks. Their multidisciplinary team, made up of psychiatrists, counsellors, occupational therapists and more, were juggling multiple calendars to schedule appointments, without full oversight of other's workloads, leading to delays and collaborative blindspots.
Their previous system lacked patient-facing features like automated reminders and direct booking, resulting in non-attendance rates as high as 12%. Clinical documentation was slow and arduous, often keeping clinicians late as they caught up on consultation notes, while inconsistent processes led to billing errors and a disjointed patient experience.
But these issues have been dramatically reduced since adopting Semble. With real-time appointment visibility, instant booking confirmations and automated reminders, patient no-shows have dropped to just 3% for new patient assessments.
Integrated onboarding and documentation – now enhanced with AI transcription – has cut clinical admin time by around 60%. Clinicians can access records securely from anywhere, improving flexibility and responsiveness. Multidisciplinary coordination is seamless and patients consistently report a smoother, more reassuring journey from first contact to follow-up. And the time saved from these streamlined workflows means they have the capacity to see more patients and give them the time and care they need.
In conversation with Schoen Clinic
Read the transcript of our conversation with Dr James Woolley, Dr Daniel Masud and Marco Burman-Fourie.
Dr James Woolley, Group Medical Director:
I think the top priority is always being patient-centric. You can have as well-developed a business plan as you like in order to develop and grow a clinic, but it doesn't work unless it's got patient service delivery at the heart of it.
At Schoen Clinic we want to deliver exceptional care for our patients and that involves a really smooth process all the way through from initial inquiry and the right sort of treatment following them through until things have improved.
Marco Burman-Fourie, Clinic Director:
Over the last 14 months we really developed Schoen Clinic Chelsea, where we now focus on gentle psychiatry, neurodevelopmental assessments and also treatment for those assessments.
Dr James Woolley:
The clinician engagement with previous systems was very patchy. So we wanted something that was much more intuitive, that had a clinical focus to it, and accessible flexibly.
Dr Daniel Masud, Consultant Psychiatrist
Semble gives you oversight of what everybody else is doing and who's involved in the care. It has a running record of notes.
So Semble allows you to see that collaboration, it allows you to see who's involved and when they've been seen. And it makes sense, so you get that very longitudinal view of the patient. Where the demand is high, the capacity needs to be higher, the efficiency needs to be higher.
Dr James Woolley:
The integration of the transcription with Semble is allowing us to complete clinical documentation much faster than before. Patients are getting feedback from their appointments the same day. That's not something that we were ever able to come anywhere near.
Dr Daniel Masud:
Previously I would probably spend a good two to three hours of typing up reports. I’d say now, I’ve reduced that to less than 45 minutes.
Dr James Woolley:
Previously we would have non-attendance rates that were frequent enough to be problematic. Since moving to the automated reminder system in Semble, the non-attendance rates have really reduced significantly. The ability for the patients to know much more quickly who's available to get things booked in, to have immediate confirmations, automated reminders.
The non-attendance rates for new patient assessments, it could have been around 10 to 12%. The last time I looked, it had dropped to 3 or 4%.
Marco Burman-Fourie:
We just feel our productivity has gone up and not just because of the amount of appointments we see, but the productivity in ourselves from our team, to make sure that we achieve everything we can per client and making sure that we have oversight of our finances and our productivity.
Dr Daniel Masud:
When I look back I have sort of a bit of PTSD. It's like horror – I can't believe we used to work that way.
Dr James Woolley:
Just feeling from that point of initial inquiry that, here's a system, here's a process, here's a clinic that is just efficient.
Marco Burman-Fourie:
it's easy to use. It's been a bit of a journey and a good one for us, because it's only improved on our quality.
Dr Daniel Masud:
You would rather work for places where your life's a lot easier and they've got the right software – those things are important nowadays. And also to try and maintain a work-life balance, you need to make sure that you've got these systems that support you in doing that. And I think Semble does that really nicely.
