Less admin, more heart: Semble helps cardiologist put compassion back at the centre of care

September 11, 2025

Ahead of World Patient Safety Day on 17th September, Semble  is highlighting how cutting through admin gives doctors the clarity and headspace to focus on what matters most: safeguarding patient journeys and delivering truly joined-up, human-centred care.

For consultant cardiologist Dr Matt Balerdi, of Humber Health Partnership NHS as well as Spire and Bupa, the impact has been transformative. By streamlining communication and administration, he has reclaimed the equivalent of a full working day every week, which he now spends deepening patient relationships and tailoring care to each patient’s needs.

“Before Semble, it was difficult to see whether patients were being lost between systems. After implementing it, it was like switching on a light. Suddenly I had clarity: patients weren’t slipping through the cracks, and communication with GPs and patients became seamless,” said Dr Balerdi.

Tackling fragmentation in healthcare

Across both NHS and private practice, clinicians have long struggled with fragmented, siloed systems that can delay interventions or risk patients falling through the cracks. Semble addresses this challenge by enabling same-day correspondence with GPs, giving patients direct access to consultation letters and documentation, and providing a centralised record. For cardiology patients – especially those with valve disease who require close surveillance – having  an interoperable system is therefore critical to safety.

“As soon as the patient leaves the room, their next appointment is already booked. That simple step ensures they won’t fall off the pathway,” Dr Balerdi explained.

“For me, patient safety is inseparable from trust. It’s about doing what you say you’re going to do, when you say you’re going to do it. Semble enables me to keep those promises – and patients notice. They feel supported, and that sense of security is fundamental to safe care.”

More time for patients, less time on admin

With an entire day each week freed from admin, Dr Balerdi has been able to open new clinics and reduce waiting times, spend longer with patients during consultations and provide more reassurance and continuity of care.

“For me, patient safety is inseparable from trust. It’s about doing what you say you’re going to do, when you say you’re going to do it. Semble enables me to keep those promises – and patients notice. They feel supported, and that sense of security is fundamental to safe care.”

Dr Balerdi’s exemplary Doctify rating reflects the stronger patient relationships and confidence that Semble has helped to build.

Safety as the foundation of care

For Semble, safety is about more than reducing harm, it's the foundation for trust, dignity and compassion in medicine. Christoph Lippuner, CEO and Co-founder of Semble, said: “Safety is more than helmets, locks or seatbelts, it’s the condition that allows us to be human. In healthcare, safety means not only preventing harm, but creating the reliability and trust that let clinicians focus fully on their patients.

“As AI reshapes healthcare, safety must remain at its core, safeguarding dignity, privacy and humanity. The technology should act as an invisible partner, taking care of the routine tasks so consultants can be fully present for their patients. With Semble, the real value of safety isn’t just about faster admin, it’s ensuring no patient is overlooked, every interaction is meaningful, and critically, is built on trust."
