Demand, diagnosis and a new era of psychiatry

As demand for mental health care continues to rise, are we building a system that treats people at the right time, and strikes the balance between early support, diagnosis and treatment?

Consultant psychiatrists Dr Daniel Masud and Dr Georgios Basdanis sit down for a candid conversation about working in mental health care today, exploring the questions shaping modern psychiatry: are we medicalising too early, can AI make both patients and clinicians more present and what do patients really fear when they walk into a psychiatrist’s consultation room?

The pair also reflect on the changing shape of mental health care, from supporting people through cancer treatment to understanding the distress that sits beneath addiction.

No scripts. Just real experiences, real challenges and real insight into where mental health care is heading in the UK, from clinicians who live it every day.
